A little guidance from professionals
Succulents are low-maintenance plants that thrive with minimal care. Here’s a simple guide to keep your succulents healthy and beautiful:
1. Light: Succulents love bright, indirect sunlight. Place them near a window that gets plenty of light but avoid direct sunlight for long periods to prevent scorching. If your succulents start to stretch or lean towards the light, they may need more exposure.
2. Watering: Water your succulents deeply but infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can cause roots to rot, so ensure the pot has proper drainage. During winter, reduce watering as succulents go into dormancy.
3. Soil: Use well-draining soil for your succulents. A cactus or succulent mix works best, but you can also add sand or perlite to regular potting soil to improve drainage.
4. Temperature:Succulents prefer temperatures between 60°F and 80°F (15°C to 27°C). Avoid placing them in areas that get too cold or too hot, such as near air conditioners or heaters.
5. Fertilizing: Feed your succulents with a diluted, balanced fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing in fall and winter when they are resting.
6. Potting: Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent excess water from sitting in the bottom. If you’re potting new succulents, make sure the pot is only slightly larger than the plant to prevent water from lingering in excess soil.
7. Pruning: Trim any dead or dried-out leaves to keep your succulent looking fresh. You can also prune leggy stems to encourage new growth.
With just a little attention and the right environment, your succulents will thrive for years, bringing beauty and positive energy to your home with minimal effort.
